Was born in 1957 in Groznyy.

1971-1975 - student of the Upper Art School of Institute named by I. Repin of the Academy of Art USSR.
1975-1981 - student of the Institute of painting, sculpture and architecture named by I. Repin of the Academy of Art USSR, sculpture faculty.
1981-1983 - candidate of Institute named by I. Repin.
Since 1981 - member of the Union of Artists of St. Petersburg.
Works in many techniques: monumental and interior sculpture, portrait, unique graphic, interior design, author's photography.

Since 1980 - participant of many national, regional and local exhibitions in Russia, Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, USA, Finland, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan.

Main monumental works:

1984 -"Blockade's women" monument. St. Petersburg.
1986 - "In immortality of gone away" monument.
The St. Petersburg University.
1997 - N. Gogol monument. St. Petersburg.

Main interior works:

1987 - work on exposition of The Museum named by V. Lenin in Gorki. Moscow.
1987 - work on exposition of The Museum of the Fire Department. Rostov on the Don.
1989 - work on exposition of The Museum of the Fire Department. Lipetsk.
1994-1996 - work on sculptures for the Investbank interiors. Kaliningrad.

Works of Sergey Astapov are in many museum and private collections in Russia and abroad.
